Bidding & Buying Tips

How Automatic Bidding Works

When you place a bid, you enter the maximum amount you are willing to pay for the item. The seller and other bidders won't know your maximum bid amount.

The site will place bids on your behalf following the assigned bid increment of $5, $10 or $20 for the auction (depending on starting value) until bidding reaches your maximum amount or you are out bid. We will bid as much as necessary to make sure that you remain the high bidder and you win the item.

In the event that another bidder places a higher maximum bid, the site will inform you that you have been outbid and provide you with the opportunity to place a subsequent bid.

If no other bidder has a higher maximum bid at the end of the auction, you will win the item even if your bid doesn't go as high as your maximum bid.

For Example

A current or opening bid is $100 with $10 increments. The maximum you are willing to pay is $200 but you are the high bidder at $110.

The site will bid for you up to your maximum of $200. If another buyer places a bid of $150, the site will automatically increase the bid for you to $160. You remain the high bidder because your maximum is greater than the $150 offered.

If a bid of $210 is placed you will be notified by email that you have been out bid and that you have the option to increase your maximum bid.

Automatic Bidding Advantages

You won't necessarily pay the amount of your maximum bid. The site will increase your bid on your behalf, using only as much of your bid as is necessary to maintain your high bid position. Your maximum bid is kept confidential (until it is exceeded by another bidder). You could pay significantly less than your maximum price if no other bids are registered. It spaces out the bidding and you can avoid small last minute bids. You don't have to keep coming back to re-bid every time another bid is placed.
